April 2012

TF Cable’s DLO WIND RHH/RHW-2/RW90 646 MCM cable successfully completed the heat cycled Torsion Testing requirements per Major Wind Turbine Manufacturer’s spec and UL 44 Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test at Intertek’s Cable Testing Laboratory in Cortland, NY.

Wind Turbine company’s Torsion Testing spec requires the bundling of 3 cables (DLO WIND 646 MCM) together and 10,000 cycles. The active cable bundle was 3 meters in length and underwent continuous twisting of 276° in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. Simultaneously, heat cycling was performed on the conductors. Torsion testing was followed by the “Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test” according to UL 44, and the visual inspection of the stranded copper conductors by Intertek’s engineering staff. TF Cable’s DLO WIND 646 was evaluated on all three parameters by Intertek and successfully passed. These results confirm that our DLO WIND product will meet the most rigorous and stringent requirements for a wind turbine environment!

JULY 2011 – TF CABLE Americas, a subsidiary of TF Kable Poland provided 2 types of High Voltage Cable as part of a 4 phase substation modernization project in cooperation with ABB, a global technology leader in Power Generation Systems. This project involves cable installation at 4 high voltage substations belonging to a major Texas electricity provider. The scope of this project required TF KABLE to manufacture and supervise both installation and on-site testing of 69KV and 138KV high voltage cable types. Installation and testing supervision was performed in cooperation with high voltage system specialists from TF Kable and engineering personnel from TF Cable Americas.

The first phase of the project involved four gas-to-air connections between GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) and 4 feeders including a wind farm, two overhead transmission lines and a substation. The second stage of the project similarly involved eight gas-to-air connections between GIS and 8 feeders. Two additional phases of this project are still underway.

TF Kable manufactured and supplied nearly two miles of 138KV cable and one mile of 69KV cable.

The end user utility is one of U.S.’s largest generator of electricity providing service in 11 states and a total of over 5 million U.S. customers.

ABOUT GIS Switchgear – Replacement of air insulated switchgear with more modern solutions such as GIS (gas insulated switchgear) substantially decreases amount of space needed thanks to its compact size, increases durability of a substation and improves reliability. Switchgear constructed in GIS technology is resistant to atmospheric factors and allows for remote control operation and lower operating cost.

Tele-Fonika Kable S.A., (TFK) supplies 115kV high voltage cable to Syncrude’s multimillion dollar Emissions Reduction Project in Alberta, Canada.

This project will retrofit a flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system into the operation of the two existing fluid cokers at Syncrude’s synthetic crude oil production site in Mildred Lake, Alberta. During oil processing, cokers use heat to break down petroleum into various, more commercial products such as gas oils and chemical feed stocks. An FDG system can be installed to reduce the amount of sulfur dioxide released during the process.

Syncrude Canada, LTD., is the world’s largest producer of light sweet crude oil from oil sands and the largest single oil producer in Canada. Syncrude’s production facility near Ft. McMurray, Alberta includes a large oil sand mine, utilities plant, bitumen extraction plant and upgrading facility.

The 115kV 750 MCM High Voltage Cable is manufactured at Tele-Fonika’s ultra modern Bydgoszcz facility. This facility produces medium, high and extra-high voltage cables. This project is one of many that Tele-Fonika Kable has been successful in winning and supplying to turnkey engineering firms globally.

TFK was founded in 1992 and is presently one of the largest private enterprises operating in Poland with factory locations in Kraków, Myślenice, Szczecin and Bydgoszcz. Products are delivered to customers in more than 80 countries worldwide
